I find this a bit bizarre, I've never ever been asked for my paper counterpart in a single country I've worked or been on holiday.

As an HGV licence holder, I have to produce the paper counterpart on a regular basis to be checked. It was supposed to be gone last year but the FTA were not happy with the situation so it got put back to June this year, whilst thier concerns got sorted out.
