Craigslist

Post by Rebel »

Anyone ever bought a car from Craigslist, you know how it is, decided to have a look as keep hearing the name mentioned, and just happen to find a car that needs to be on my drive :D

Is it the same as eBay, check as much detail as possible, get photos, have the car checked out etc etc

if all goes to plan, how's the final deal done?

Yeah, pretty much the same..... Just make sure it is all kosher. It is popular here as no one wants to give money to eBay.
I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!

I got my coronet from Craigslist. I didn't have any problem.
I emailed the guy first. Got more pictures and info. Phoned him to reassure myself he was real, and to show I wasn't a messer or scammer. Transfered money into his account and let the shipper do the rest. Very nerve racking as there is no real protection as far as I know when you wire money.. but all turned out ok for me.

I found mine on Craiglist as well. After that I emailed the guy and took it from there, emails, conversations, hooking up on facebook to confirm photos, chronology, stories etc.

Btw, you can use http://zoomthelist.com/ to search all the area Craiglistsings for a particular model.

Good luck :thumbright:

I bought my 72 New Yorker off Craigslist....as has been said, its all about picking the phone up and speaking with the seller to get a feel for them. Ask them to email you pics of all the usual rust areas. If they send you good quality close ups then you are onto a winner usually. I had loads sent of all the usual areas and the guy sent more than enough. We also swapped ebay IDs so he could satisfy himself that I am genuine and a prompt payer etc. Likewise, I could see he was genuine.

It is a risk but you will get a feel for who is helpful and who isnt. I asked a guy some questions about a 72 Newport and all he said was that it was showing 60k miles....end of conversation.

Its important to get the conversation going as you will be asking for bank details etc when you come to pay for it so there needs to be a bit of trust there. I almost bought a Newport from Chicago last year, got to the payment stage and as soon as I mentioned Western Union as an option, they got cold feet and backed out!! Stick with bank transfer during conversations.

Im in regular contact with the seller of my New Yorker in Texas (Keith). Nice guy and very genuine....

Good luck :thumbright:

There seem a lot of desirable Mopar and other V8 engines at low prices :?
