What do you feel is a modern or future classic ?

Not sure I agree with that.

The days of needing expensive bespoke tooling to make stuff are numbered...I work in a toolroom that is quietly backing away from toolmaking....
We can 3d print stainless steel at work now, and we are starting with titanium(which is , I'm told, stronger than forged)...., we can do any shape imaginable in plastic. When it gets cheaper to obtain the gear it will be a case of going to your local engineering place with a CAD file on a USB.

It's not perfect, the surface finish is poor, and it's too slow for production, but it's only going to improve over time.

There will be aftermarket ECUs and stuff, certainly for the popular cars. If there is a market for it, someone will make it.

I'm sure people in the 60s and 70s would never have dreamed that companies would be starting up 40 and 50 years later making parts for the cars they had back then.

Looks like if you start a Calibra/Cavalier club and a late model MG Club up you'll earn yourself instant classic's

the bit in your statement that made me laugh was no build quality, they are much better built now than back in the 60,s-70,s you only need drive modern stuff to realize it, panel fit and finish etc etc, what the old motors have is character and lots of it in certain models you just dont get that with modern cars,,,,,,

New Dacias,just dodgy Renaults,most Citroen stuff,most new Nissan,just dodgy Renault bits,anything from Landrover. Now,VW,Merc BMW and most of the rest do have some good build quality.

1970s fuel crisis, they were just thirsty old cars that no one wanted.

Hell even when I bought the charger in the 90s most people just thought it was a thirsty old piece of junk that would be more trouble than it was worth, and that it would be impossible to get parts for....

Not one person ever suggested that it might be worth money one day.

We're mostly looking at this modern stuff from the perspective of people that don't like them.It's not the people that don't like stuff that turns them into classics.

Let's face it - "classic" is open to interpretation. Personally, I've always liked big Vauxhalls - Early 90's Senator 3.0 24v was an awesome piece of kit - but I can't see them ever making it into Octane or Classic & Sportscar. This one however might. (probably because it's not the Vauxhall version).

See what your saying, maybe I didn't word it quite right what I ment was they were built from heavier gauge metal with real wood dash's etc, not built like modern cars with wafer thin steel and plastic. But as you say bags more character.

I liked the early Opels had a couple of A series commodore coupe's they looked like mini chargers. and couple of A series manta's
