Yes but the gantry signifies the finish line.

you think "i've finished" 8 to 10 feet after you actually did.
if it was the other way there'd be people lifting off the gas before the timing beam.
only a problem if you are timing yourself i guess..... and that that speed you shouldn't be dicking about with ya watch

No if the finish line is closer to the start line, it wont take as long to go past the finish line so their times will be half a second quicker.

Went to the pod last weekend with the Doomsday Impala team.New gantry looked great.We had a walk to the end of the return road and the old gantry is laid down by the side of it.It looked rough.
