no disrespect to responsible staffie owners

Post by Dart Vader »

My dog (Guinness the black Lab) got started on by a staffie on Saturday, the Staffie started it, Guinness finished it but did come away with badly bitten leg. The staffie was owned by a guy I know and showed no signs of the attack, it just kicked off and guinness was just nearest. It's just flipped, no growl, no warning just mental

Few trips to the vet and an op and I'm grand down.

Luckily Guinness is insured so it's only cost the excess of 90 quid.

My point being, Staffies have a lock jaw bite, the damage can be so severe from one bite it can be horrific.

The thing that makes me so shocked by it is that if my dog had been a child imagine the injury.

I'm not one for saying they are all devil dogs, far from it, I know 2 which are great big soppy things, Fingers (former member) has one and Diesel up the farm where I keep my car are great.

BUT

I can see why they have this bad reputation, I hate to say it but if you can't trust your dog then surely it has to be muzzled. That goes for all breeds, from the little yappy russels to big loping danes.

Guinness is ok, and won't bare a grudge, I just have to chalk it up as being the attack and defence mechanism of animals but I can see why people steer clear of staffies as a rule.

Grrr rant over

It's the retards that own them that are the problem.

Hope your dog recovers 100%.

Pointless. When my poor old greyhound was set on (wasnt a staffie) the council, police and dog warden dont want to know. Nothing they can do dog-on-dog. Your best hope is to get bitten yourself when defending your dog - then you can get the thing put down.

What was the breed of dog Morgan?

My dogs (English Bull Terriers) have been attacked by Border Collies, chocolate labradores, black labradores and jack russells. Mine are always on a lead and the attacking dogs are not. then when the attacking dogs end up in trouble its the Bull breeds fault which really cheeses me off.
I dont take mine out anymore and dont think I will have another dog full stop.

Sorry to hear about your dog

I've had 4 Staffs and in particular 2 we had before any kids came along and when they did (all 4 of them) the Staffies never ever showed any sign of dodginess.

In fact Staffies are know ans the "nannydog" as they litterally look after you and your kids. (They say the second best dog to have with nippers next to a Lab)

Now the problem is that people buy them as a dog to try and make themselves look tough.....and the kind of idiots that do this are generally the type that bring them up tough

Always the owners fault

Way before I dropped into my career I used to do Multidrop delivery driving. All around Birmingham so what do you think was the most viscous Bananarama! that I tangled with:

One of these........

NO!

One of these........

NO

How about.......
Image

Nope.......

I can safely say that in 25 months and a whole lot of deliveries I never had beef with any dog apart from 3........YES 3 of these little Bananarama!:

Image

Had one biting my ankles all the way up the garden path in Smethwick......Old owner, just shouted at the dog to play nice. I nearly stepped on the little Bananarama!! He's biting me and the owner was saying to me don't hurt him!

Same with letter boxes. Big dogs couldn't give a Bananarama!. These Bananarama! want sausages all day long!!!!

Even more surprising as the FIL has always had rescue dogs.

totally agree that its not generally the dog, more the upbringing of said dog.

I guess my main rant is that the amount of damage from one bite is extrordinary.

I totally agree that proper owners can control their dogs and that yes, the mindless few that have them as Trophy Dogs should be banned from having any animal

Sadly there are a number of these Trophy Staffs where we live, it got so bad with one called Caesar that lives close by that I have to take my dog in the car up to the park, rather than walk him past Caesars house as this thug of a dog jumps the fence and attacks. He has had warnings about it, its mainly at other dogs but I guess it could be a matter of time when it has a go at someone.

Guinness is on mend, a bit whiney, understandibly but should be OK

No point chasing other owner for the costs, it just goes as been dog on dog encounter
