Another newbie
Greetings all.
I've wanted a Challenger or a Cuda (Could never make up my mind which I liked best - still cant!) ever since they were still making them. I remember feelings of dismay when I read in Custom Car in 1974 that they were stopping production, even though at 19 I had zero chance of affording a new car!
I've had most of my bucket list cars, the last a 59 El Camino which I sold 18 months ago. Been looking for an E body since then.
Couldn't really pay the price for a nice one but I couldn't be doing with a rusty one - I looked at 1 or 2.
Last week I finally found the right car - it had been advertised on Car & Classic UK a month or so ago but when I called, the guy said his missus had talked him out of selling it and he was taking it with him to the US. Then last Sunday he emailed again to say I could buy it after all.
Drove down to Essex on Tuesday with a bag of cash. It was exactly as he described it, no rust damage at all apart from the trunk floor and a bit on the lower LH quarter. Interior a bit shot, but some good bits remain. Runs OK.
Its a fairly base model 1970 with a 318 & auto. Has few minor dings, no big deal. Was a vinyl roof car, its been taken off ...and amazingly there were no rust holes underneath.
It was imported in 2012, never registered but went thru an MOT in 2014. Runs but the gas has gone stale.
Plans are to register it and restore & upgrade, to what extent I'm undecided. Might get a late hemi, or the 318 might get a stroker kit. Will certainly get discs on the front and some handling improvements.

Welcome to the club, and congratulations on your purchase.
Plenty of support and knowledge on here.
I would be inclined to get it registered before making major modifications and spending big money on it.
All the best
Pete

Thanks Pete. Yeah, thats the plan, get it registered first. Want to put it thru an MOT first too.
Probably dont need to, but word is that it smooths the registration process. They dont seem to inspect MOTd cars so often. Easy way to pinpoint any issues as well.

Welcome briz
What a cracking base to start from, and a very lucky find, they don’t come along too often like that.
Enjoy it.
Richard.

Re: Another newbie
Welcome! very wise move not to buy a basket case, E bodies can get eye wateringly expensive if you start with a bad one. Me, I'd fix what needs fixing, MOT and register it and then use it while you decide where you want to go with it.

Welcome to the club and congratulations on your new Mopar.
MattH will be the guy to talk to re: getting the car registered.
Keep an eye on the classified section - over the course of the year you'll see lots of bits come up that might be useful. Get in quick, though... especially if it's a starter motor or Pete will beat you to it!!!
Look forward to seeing the build thread.
All the best,
Jon.

Nice looking base there, burnt orange is a great colour and that looks pretty original.
Definitely register before doing much else, and an MOT is a good way to get a second set of eyes over it rather than just drive it and prang it for missing something. Its only £40 so MOT it. It isnt exempt yet, (law changes in May) and DVLA are tightening up on registering imports.
Make sure you have the NOVA form and original title.
