States Plates?

Post by RobTwin »

So who's had good experience recently ordering 'States'-style number plates? And who from?

I think I read / heard recently that yer actual 'States Plates' company were no longer as good or as easy to deal with as they previously were?

We got some for the Dodge about 18 years ago but cant remember who that was  #-o

I’ve had plates recently from States Plates without any hassle, same quality as they used to be. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories recently too, but can only speak as I find.

My latest reproduction plates came from these people : https://california-license-plate.com/

I’ve got to say, they aren’t cheap, but when I compared the plates to the original California plates that the car had when it was in America, they are bob on. Really pleased with them.

Yes, very bob-on :thumbright: :D

£61.12 vs £26.95 for States Plates... but the States Plates do use a funny font... :-k

States plates look fine when they come through, always better than the mock up. For a perfectly good set of street plates, that’s where I’d go. I just decided I wanted some proper reproduction plates. I actually ordered some states plates as well in case I get a pull on the blue plates.

I dont bother with them any more, i dont think they are very authentic looking, have gotten expensive and a 3-4 week wait. Not as much choice state wise but ive had some CA plates from pressedplate 'dot' com that were good and arrived in a couple of days, theres also a seller on Ebay does a pair or 6 x 12 metal plates if youre not fussy on colour and style for under 25 quid

Mine are from California licence plate too, they are very accurate reproductions including the sticker dimples and punched mounting holes.

They look fantastic and I love the yellow lettering on yours too Blue. Cant remember where I got mine from but I have UK plates on at the moment. This has prompted me to put mine back on with my Fireside Dodge plate frames

I had ones from States plates first Steve but the font isn’t correct and the yellow far too bright, it should be more of a mustard shade.

So, the reason I brought this up a few weeks ago...

My lad thought it would be a nice idea to buy an age-related registration for our Sport Satellite, as a birthday present, to replace the 'S' reg it got when it was imported from Belgium in '78.

We had considered it over the years but tbh I was on the fence, with one foot in the 'keep the reg the car has had for the last 47 years' camp :-k

If we had gone and sorted a reg for ourselves we would have settled on one with 2 numbers, instead of the full 3, to help fit on a US style plate, but, beggars cant be choosers, and more to the point, the company he got te reg from, didnt offer refunds  so we gratefully accepted the new reg and a couple of weeks ago, got a pair of States Plates made up :D

And Stu dug out the old Direct Connection surround that was on the car when we bought it...

We opted for 'no border' as they are busy enough, with text top and bottom, year and a 7-digit reg :-k

Although the car came to the UK from Belgium, we know it was made in Detroit so we went with Michigan at the top for the rear, but had a bit of fun with the front one... ;) :stummin: :headbang:

They would have looked a bit better with a gap between the letters and numbers - like on Mark's Challenger above, but this is how they came and there was no option to include a gap, that I could see when ordering #-o :geek:

Bit late now but you can buy a 6 Digit reg direct from the DVLA for not a lot of money compared to what you normally see them advertised for.
