Jim, you bought yours a few years before me, I got my first in 1980 & I was only 22, I had an FXS Lowrider, always wanted a FXWG. I used to know Fred Warr pretty well back then, there was only him & Pratts in Greenwich who had anything to do with Harleys in those days.
Ivor mine is from the AMF times, well the motor & trans anyway, there are plenty of AMF Harleys left, just not many that are original.

I also got to know Fred very well. He only had a small shop in the Kings Road. When I bought my Super Glide it was the only bike in the shop. Times have changed somewhat.... Ted Pratt also had a identical 'bi-centenal' Super Glide as his own ride.

Great stuff, real quality work.
I have had 3 Harleys (all rubbish!!)
Not the quality act like yours.
The '53 was my favourite but it needed a hardtail frame SO badly; I mocked it up as seen in the picture but my heart was not in it, so I sold it and got a Ducati.....
I had the Sportster for about 3 months but I died of embrrassment so I sold it and got the SuperGlide. The best by far but could not live with being overtaken by Corsas. I think my biking days are over now.

Lovin' the Panhead, something changed with Harleys once they developed the Evo motor, oh yeah they became reliable & every Bananarama! wanted one as a status symbol!

I know what you mean Rob.
I think the Twin Cams look even more ugly.
The best looking engines were the Pans, followed by the Shovels.
Quite like knucks too but I bet the reliability is not up to much..............

The Pan was a 1200cc (74") FL......
The Sportster was Gay.
The Evo was a 1338cc stage 1............

Jim I can see you on a new Triumph Thunderbird or Rocket to be honest. Much better quality bikes.

Incidentally, the Pan had a linked braking system off a Moto Guzzi; 75% on the footbrake and 25% on the front hand brake lever. Seemed to work well..............it also had a Wide Glide on it.........

Update, took it for short test ride today
MOT next, then hope we get a few more sunny days this year!
