4-SPEED AHEAD!

I now have most of the bits i need.
Bellhousing fron Jon C- thanks.
HEMI 18-spline gearbox, flywheel, clutch and several shifters, linkages etc from Dunc.

Today i had a good sort through the bits. I re-fitted the spacer and bearing in the crank, cleaned up and fitted the flywheel, clutch & basket. I aligned the clutch plate by measuring from the edge of the friction plate to the edge of the pressure plate at 6 points around their circumference. I might just slot the gearbox into place (without the bellhousing) to check alignment.
I also temp bolted the bellhousing and starter onto the motor and gave it a quick turn over just to check it engages nicely, etc.
I hadn't realised there was a little adaptor on the end of the starter nose which i removed, presumably it was needed for the 727.
What's needed so far-
The s/b bellhousing has a smaller opening than the 18-spline front housing (about 2/10ths") so i'll take it to my mate to mill it out.
The clutch release bearing is for a 23-spline and won't fit.
I need a poly insert for the rear mount.
I'll make/ buy/ mod a shift lever. Cos i have bench seats i might have to make it an odd shape!
I'll go through the collection of shift rod rods Dunc gave me and see what fits.
I then just need a bunch of clips, plastic doodads and bits-n-bobs which Ade has offered to sort out.
Overall, bloody great :D

A bit of progress this weekend- I've had the bellhousing mouth machined out to 4.805" to fit the 18 spline so now i can go through the various bits to se what goes with what :?
I've just found loads of good pics at Passon and Brewers showing the correct fork, pivot, adj rod, Z-bar, etc so i'll see what matches the pics tonight.
I'm waiting a reply about a throwout bearing, poly trans mount inserts and some other bits from Shaun at Moparts http://www.mopartsdealer.com/

I emailed about 15-20 US breakers about a pedal and never got ONE reply. Gits :P

no they don't like email

i have only ever had replys from comp and summit in reasonable time
clay smith cams took a month...

if well know companies can't be bothered

breakers yards ha......

you have to phone em

www.ratebuster.co.uk

1p a minute

what dimension on the throw out bearing?

center bore.....
and bore of face

it should be a press fit on the holder (that slides easily on the input shaft bearing retainer) that clips precariously onto the clutch fork which rests precipitously on a lump in the sturdiliy mounted bellhousing

got a bag of about 40......
made in collwyn bay
might fit

I have a spare clutch release bearing and carrier for a hemi 4 speed, yours if you want it. Not sure how good the bearing is but it feels ok, it was in the boot of the car when I got it.

Well after a fruitless search for a clutch pedal i'm making my own
A good root through my box of treasure turned up a 2"x 1/2" i.d. steel tube- perfect size for the pivot :thumbright:
I also found a length of 2"x 3.8" bar, so i have all the ingredients.
The actual pedal is easy- no bends just cut to shape, drill for the tube and weld 'em together reasonably straight.
The lever bit will be trickier- it's a funny shape and bends all over the place. It's also the critical bit as the operating rod and over-centre spring pivot on it. I've a few photos off t'internet as a guide, so i'll do some careful measuring and guess-timating and make a pattern before committing it to steel.

If anyone has better pics or even a pedal i could borrow to copy...? ;)

Hmm, further research is sugggesting BB set-ups have roller bearings in the pedal pivot. Sounds like a good idea if i'm feeling clever...

With a Centreforce Clutch you remove the over-centre spring............

Thanks to Mick i now have the almost-impossible-to-find throwout bearing :D
AND gears!!! I actually got a real buzz today from banging through the gears for the first time :D :D
It's really easy to set up the rods and levers (once you have the right ones...) You just poke a screwy throught the holes in the 3 shifter arms,
Set each gear selector in neutral, adjust the rods til they fit and slam those gears in!

Tomorrow i can bolt the gearbox up to the motor, get the car up on stands and let the engine see the engine bay for the first time :D :D :D
