I managed Si so you will walk it! The instruction sheet that comes with the FBO plate is just what you need....goes through it step by step

didn’t need the limiter plate after all
the dizzy has already got an adjustable mechanism

Not seen one of those before. Very neat.

I measure the slots where the advance tabs sit at 6.5mm initially, that was giving me 21deg of advance, wanted 14deg, worked out the gap needed to be 4.3mm, set it, tried it …
rpm … -> … advance
850 … -> … 20
1500 … -> … 23
2000 … -> … 32
2500 … -> … 32
3000 … -> … 32
3500 … -> … 32
not bad for first attempt
do you think I need to fit a stronger spring??
I took the car for a run, seemed well happy with the new settings, no detonation what-so-ever
I am going to open up the gap a touch to get the desired 34deg

Great result Si ... top quality photo and detail as always matey...think you are right about springs...all in at low revs and I think it should'nt be all in till around 3000rpm so stiffer springs will slow down the advance curve to make it more gradual

I think you said it liked to idle with a higher initial but just wouldn't start?
In that case I would leave it with that faster rate of advance unless you notice any problems.

righto sorted, initial 20deg, total 34deg

Now the timing is sorted you WILL need to adjust your idle mixture at the carb. Adjust JUST rich enough for max manifold vacuum at idle (and in gear if an automatic) at 800rpm.

Dave....just remind me mate....is the gauge attached to the lowest vac port on the carb?
cheers Steve

Usually yes. Manifold vacuum is from any port venting from below the throttle blades.

Just don't forget you have it in gear and go and rev the engine.....
