30K is not bad you know, I had quotes to add to my garage 5x3m few years back and that was 15K then, brick and roof was expensive, so didn't do it.

Don't forget a 2 post ramp can be driven over easily, a 4 post can,t. So 2 post at the front of the building , and storage space behind.
I built my building 3 large cars wide and 2 long, with a 2 post ramp at front.
I have been in the motor trade more than a few years, and would have a 2 post over a 4 post ramp every time , they take up less room , and are more versatile , plus cheaper to buy.

Totally agree in the trade two over four every time.

But would those on here agree the layout as it is (if the ramps, or at least one of them) changed to a 2 post works?

Save money.
One central door.
Two post lift set back from door, so you can easily drive past both sides of two poster, with lift/legs up , or pulled round.
Less doors = less cost and better security
SORTED

Oh, and by the way, however big you build it ...........It will never be big enough

But 2 post lift not so easy for drive on storage of a car and you can just put the 4 post lift up in the air and drive under or buy a second set of ramps and drive over lift and off the other end.

I think one of each would you best way to go.

Last layout looks much better. Leaves you two spaces out the way for pure storage.

Just keep in mind headroom if your running the mezzanine like that as you stairs I would expected would run on the back wall.
With the power tools ect, in my head I'd probably have it running over the two spaces you'd use for car storage. Headroom and high storage at the apex.

It would also be beneficial for natural light in the working area and safety in doing hot work.

Bay one, tandem garage and mezzanine store.
Bay two and three as the workshop area. Lifts at the front as it is now. Mix of 2 and 4....best of both worlds.

Can see that as the best of both in me ed.

Not considered an in ground scissor?

Not in the way at all when not in use. Not quite as useful as a 2 poster, better than a 4.

I allowed for one in my new garage.

Never put it in as ive moved, but i needed to get 4 cars in there. But still be able to lift one. OK, its a half height one due to the roof, but you get the idea?

I've settle on a scissor lift in the project area, a 4 post for storage and a 2 post also.

Just waiting on the final costings now, planning then project is a go

The scissor lift looks clever for cars to drive over..

Bit of an update on this.

Next Monday the ground works starts, I ended up going for a hot rolled steel frame building which is 8m wide by 13.5m long. just over 4.3 metres to the ridge. The garage will have three 3x3 m roller shutter doors and fully insulated.

It required planning permission and due to the size will need building control sign off. It has been quite an interesting but complicated process to date - lucky I'm a project manager (we'll find out if I'm a **** one soon enough!)

Planning granted, 60 tonnes of MOT Type1 ordered - this will be a self build 'with help' kind of project.

Exciting times - will post updates if anyone is remotely interested!
