Just tried that Pete- no fuel evident in the venturis so it doesn't look like a fuel leak.
I've fiddled some more , if i set the idle screws to 1/2 turn out i can open the primaries a 1/4-1/2 turn off closed but any more and the idle speed drops. Vac is around 5 or less here so even the 2.5 power valve i have in could be opening?
I just gonna give the carb one last internal check before i drill my first holes
Worst case scenario i'll have to weld up the holes/ buy new blades.

YEAHHHH
Found evidence of a leak between chambers in the gasket behind the sec metering block. I hadn't renewed this one as the one in the kit was slightly different.
I made the extra couple of holes needed in the new gasket and on it went.
I set the butterflies to .045-ish up the transfer slots, mix screws to 2.5, whacked the carb back on and it fired up and idled straight off
I can now gently open the throttle and the revs slowly climb where before it just died!
AND this is BEFORE I went and drilled the butterflies
Best tickover seems 1000-1200, vac 10.
Below that it gets very lumpy and vac drops to 5-6.
Thats good enough for now. Once it's home and the exhausts are done i'll do more fine-tuning and fit the right power valve, etc.
I've given it full throttle a couple of times and there's no sign of the secondaries opening- will they only open when it's under load?

Yep only under load, well at least thats when there meant to open. I found they would open when they felt like it, when driving my 340 Cuda. I saved fuel when I switched over to a DP when I was crusing but when I was out posing I used a fair bit moredb wrote:there's no sign of the secondaries opening- will they only open when it's under load?

My exhausts are gonna have to exit ahead of the rear tyres so i'm looking at 28" max from collector flanges to silencer, max 18 x 5" diameter straight thru cans, then about 24" to the ends. (all in 2.5")
Are the silencers going to be far enough from the headers?
Can i get away with smaller silencers but still not give next doors dog a heart attack?
I can get the lot in stainless for around £180 and get my mate to weld it up for a crate of Stella
