James Demon not James Dean
More of a "cosmetic work so far" build, certainly not in the total rebuild league (yet
) But I thought I'd better start a propper thread on my car as I have loads of pics I've taken so far for my own refference on the little projects so far. So in no particular order.............this is a rear floor trim i had to make as the drivers side was missing when I got the car. At least I had one to copy as a mirror image
I should also point out that I formed it on a home made sheet bender that my Dad made at Barnfield College (course for car restoration
) now thats a college course I'd always turn up to

I cant find the "before" pics of the grille and light surrounds but it was pretty tired, I repaired a couple of broken brackets with alooominum home made affaires then gave everything a thorough clean and fresh paint.

Found a floor shifter kit at the restoration show last month which surprised me as I wanted one but thats not why I went and didn't expect this. All the kit was there, all bags sealed and instructions (even stickers which along with the spoiler will make the car even QUICKER!! now
I re-trimmed the horrid plastic housing to match the carpet and it looks much better. Lovin how the car drives now, much more fun
Took a couple of hours to fit with two of us
Disc conversion next??

Finally decided to see about getting the temp and fuel gauges working (to a fashion
)
Inside the instrument cluster had gone a pale yellow so this has been painted with shiny alooominum....um paint which has improved the dash lighting.
I raided my supply of model paints for some day-glo orange which works really well on the needles, I also used plastic polish on the dial windows and I'm pleased with the result, no more cloudy gauges
The multi-pin plug and socket on the back or rather the tracks on the circuit board where the pins are soldered to them seem to be a major source of my lighting and gauge issues.
After a good clean, de-solder and re-solder and also running a clean ground wire from the dash cluster to the ground block I've fitted I now have moving gauges for temp and fuel
How accurate remains to be seen but I'm very happy so far
I also cleaned out the light switch assembly and the dimmer works brilliantly now
I then took the opportunity to clean all the "fluff" from behind the steering wheel that had built up in the turn signal switches
bluurrgh grim.
Just on the lookout for a donor volt meter to graft into the ammeter window since I've bypassed it before it burns the dash.
All good,
another little job ticked off
