Separating Gauge Lenses from Binnacle - S Series Valiant

Post by dubvalman »

Has anyone ever managed to remove the clear lenses from a Valiant S Series dash binnacle?

I am retrofitting new gauges and GPS speedometer into the old binnacle and would like to salvage the old clear lenses if possible. I will manufacture a new facia like the one shown below to suit the gauges and then mount the gauges and the binnacle to the vehicle so that it gives a more OEM appearance.

I have a selection of dashes so if it comes down to it I can just use a Dremel and part the plastic lenses from the binnacle, this will unfortunately will render the lenses useless. If There is a way of separating them from their mountings so they remain intact that would be a bonus.

Thanks

Since posting this question I have experimented in attaining my goal. The binnacle is made from a single piece. It appears to be a clear ABS or such type plastic and then is finished with paint over that. So no join lines which means it will be dremel and sanding to get the centres out and the new gauges in.
