Painting interior trim?

Post by DaveScrivener »

Has anyone had experience of painting or dyeing the plastic trim on Dodge Challengers or similar?
I have just bought two pillar posts in green which I want to turn blue(the ones in my car have gone chalky and are starting to disintergrate) and I was wondering if anyone out there has done this work before or knows a good product for it without going to a trimming specialist

Vinylkote is the seventh wonder of the world, when it comes to changing the colour or plastic/vinyl trim.

I've even heard someone changing from brown to white and it still looks great years later.

Bang vinylkote into Google and you'll see some rave reviews...you can get it from Woolies and spookily I'm changing green to blue...and black to blue...and brown... :D

i;ve been using some stuff called liquid plastic, which i got from Frosts I think. even when slapped on with a brush, it does a fine job!

Ivor & Dave, from your use of it, how would you guess it would hold up on a convertible top?

I'll need to either re-dye or change my top to black (yes pink and white is too much even for me :D ). Opinions I've got so far (including from SEM) are that it should work, but it seems a pretty extreme application (heavily folded then unfolded, outside in the elements etc).

Proper cleaning seems to be the key, but if it works on a convertible top then it REALLY will be the seventh wonder of the world!!

Thanks Guys
Looks like I've got some painting to do (although more interesting than door frames and skirting boards) I don't know whether to keep it blue or go to black so that I've got more choice of colours when it comes to the respray
