I am sure the Scots will vote for independence, probably out of boredom, dissatisfaction with current politics and the hope that the new system will offer some thing better than the current one...I am sure little will change in reality...
Haven't the Scots already been sold out by the Lairds once? You'd think they'd have learned their lesson...

I doubt it will make much difference to the average Englander if Scotland are in or out. Just need to get rid of the Welsh and the Irish next :D and then we can start on the Cornish....

There was a good bit on the news about the Shetland Islanders ( I think ) wanting their own independence from Scotland if the independence goes through, and it is they who bring the oil ashore from the North Sea, so that would be an interesting set up, Scotland's revenue earner being taken away to another country. That's how the news article came across, I'm sure Andy knows more about this than me, but it was an interesting slant on it.

I seriously doubt we'll get independance. In the somewhat lively discussions on and off-shore the amount of uneducated people believing the scare tactics or just clearly not even looked at either side of the argument but will still vote No is astounding.

The worst thing of all is Flower of Scotland would become even more of a joke than it is now. It could never be sung again, haha.

Like almost all political decisions I fear that like me, the man in the street actually (whatever he may think) knows next to naff all about the actual consequences of these things. Doesnt stop us having an opinion though - and voting with it - its pretty scary really. Like jury by people who understand 1% of a case.

Obviously I count myself here. I know next to nothing yet seem to have a fairly firm opinion of "I couldnt care less, I'm kinda bored of their whining". Not really very constructive. But I do believe If they go, they go. You cant cherry pick the bits they want to keep (be that the pound, tax dollars from westminster, charity stuff etc). If ya go, ya go.

The interesting bit will actually come down to the military bases and the North sea oil...

I don't see what that has to do with anything? I just thought I'd start a thread on the subject to see what everyone's views are on the subject.

Oh, I move back to Scotland in a month or so anyway. ;)

Well worth a view if your interested, which I doubt they are. But answers many arguments regarding the financial side of if Scotland are actually subsidised by England. :)

My view, no that I really care either way tbh....

If they become independent they run the risk or going into financial hardship and becoming the poor cousin of England. If we hit a bad recession than I can see them going like Portugal/Ireland/Spain and Greece.

If they want independence, then why do they want to keep the pound and the royal family......Cake and eat it.

If you want to become independent then be independent.....Own currency and Grants and Bells as Royalty!

Its no better than the kid that leaves home, gets a flat but goes back to mom and dads for tea everynight!!

Personally if I were Scottish I'd want to stay part of the big picture.....Safety in number and size.

Never could understand the Scottish hate towards the English?

Will I now need a passport to get past the wall?
