Myth busting Mossy.

Post by Mossy68 »

I was mentioning my recent Jeep purchase to a young fella I work along side with now and again. He is into off roading 4x4's and drives a heavily modded Landy. We were discussing Jeep mods , and I was talking about cold air induction. He said he had loads of pipe , tubing and filters etc and would have a rummage to see what he had.
Yesterday he turned up with an ally tube and 90degree rubber bend he had found on the roof of a BMW in a scrap yard , plus a cone air filter he had used for a short while before changing his intake system.
Looking at the parts I thought there would be a good chance it could work , providing the diameter on the bend matched my throttle body.

So. At 9.15 this morning after returning from having a back tooth pulled out , I decided to see what I could do.
It went on like it was made for it !!!!
I need to fabricate a bracket to hold it secure , but the anaesthetic was wearing off so it has a zip tie for now.

Claims are of a 2-4 mpg increase and better throttle response etc.
I shall report my findings in due course.
It's not really a true cold air intake as it has no shield from engine heat. But worth a try.

Obviously the first thing I'll be testing !!!!
Add that to the bonus induction noise and I think it will be a while before I see any mpg benefit ( if any ) :D

The Insurance company might be interested to hear about this mod as well. In light of my recent smash Im doing everything by the book in the future.

It was days after the Jeep was hauled away I realized I had a chip under the hood for better BHP and Economy. Luckily I had disconnected it due to Diesel knock. Not sure if they have even noticed it yet but as I have the cheque now maybe its to late for them to do anything anyway?

Good point.
From my research I've read the chips don't work any way ?

Well its cost me 11 quid. A tenner for the tube and filter and a pound for the breather pipe ( the stock one was 2 " short )
Worth a shot in my book. :thumbright:

Well I only ran mine for a few hours so hard to say. I think diesel chips perform better than petrol ones? I don't really know though?

Interested to see how your bodge works though. :)

Yea you could make a surround air box to isolate it and feed some cool air in to it,I have a similar unit on my Modern challenger :thumbright:

Would it not just be easier just to have left the Jeep the way it was and then installed a K&N filter? :D

Yea but there are so many debates over this , it depends on how restrictive the stock unit is compared to a nice free flowing unit like Mossy made for a pittance and it works ,probably a little better than stock.

My thing up where we live , we need all the air we can get , hot or cold... :tumbleweed:
