It's funny how things change with time though.Minty wrote:a VH Hardtop,a rare beastGJUK wrote:What is it?

You see the hardtops and panel vans quite a bit these days for sale.
I'd love a basic 215 three-on-the-tree VH, J or K - try and find one of them these days!
I think that as time moves on, people tend to save the more unusual ones. The more "common" cars end up in the bin, and before you know it they are gone.
I'm partial to a Rover Commerce (the van-variant of the Rover 25) or a Bedford (early Astra) van (the early Astravan) - both cheap workhorses of their day. Finding one now though? Tough ask.

Car is quite nice from the front but looks like someone put to much in the trunk. Really don't like that droop to the rear.

that was the idea with the 4 door version at least
a luxury car for diplomats, Managing directors and well to do country gents
basically a three piece suite on wheels
the 2 door as above was forced upon the Australian management by the US as a car for the young and care free people
the aussies knew the market, knew it would not be a success as the market for big huge cars was decreasing, and hence designed the charger, in isolation hidden from the US bosses, using as many panels from this as possible
the press/tooling for the bootlid on this was used with half a sheet of steel to make the charger boot lids.
charger was supposed to be a niche car
it accounted for something mental like 50% of production in the first year
mind they still only made about 45000 of them in 10 years
so you can imagine how rare the 2 door hardtop above is they only managed 3 years of them
