Tucson Arizona 'Boneyard' & Pima Air & Space Museum

Just come back back from a bit of fly drive but this was the highlight for me (not the family)
Plane paradise
Blew my brains seeing this area
First of all treated to the pima museum with some mega rare aircraft

Then went to the famous 'boneyard' or AMARG as they like to be called now, which is also part of Davis Monthan Air force base which where all A10 'warthog' pilot are trained

THe bone yard has over 4000 !!! aircraft there is vary states, some are just mothballed & others bust for spares.
visiting the pima museum there is a constant drone of military aircraft museum/landing/take-in off

Wasnt that the place where the US agreed to cut up the bombers in a wide area so Russia could view it from their satelites? Part of the pact to reduce the threat.

Russia did the same but I dont know where

Those C17 or Galaxies (1st pic) as the Americans call them are huge inside, flown on them loads of time.

clue is in the no's on the side of it

only 1 every built or so I was told

Pete, there was a row of 10+ B1's breaking for spares will find photos, they still use 60 of them but are all now 'non' nuke armed as part of the peace treatys with Russia.
All the RAF harriers are here now after been 'bought' (well almost given) to the US air force
RAF tornado sq 4 were also there training, they went there just to practise 'shooting off some live ammo' in the desert

Our hotel was a about 4 miles from the US base & by pure luck out balcony faced this way so @ night watching the sun go down with a few beers, nice a peacefull

watching alsorts of stuff flying around, all day & every night.
8 A10's landing together & in the dark dont know what they were but 2 fighter taking off with afterburners alight & then going straight up well past 45 degrees until they dissappeared.
Will never forget been in the pima museum & a black B52 coming not very high @ all for landing, that was some sight to behold & hear

Ah, based on the Super Sabre, I'll read up about that one.

I'll have the Blackbird though, ideal for a trip to the supermarket...in Arizona!
