Steering shaft coupler pin

Post by Dave-R »

How does the solid pin that sits in the steering coupler come out?

I am fitting one of those Flaming River steering couplers and the instructions just say "Remove pin".

Of course I could just cut it off. And probably will to be honest.

But I wondered if it was supposed to just drift out with a hammer?

I gave it some welly with a 2lb'er but it shows no inclination to move.

Yes, I had the same problem!!! I used my vice with a tube over one end of the pin, a BFH, I think I used some heat as well. Obviously the hammer can peen over the end a bit, IIRC I finally got it moving with a combination of all those and then cut one end off end pressed it all the way out.

It does come out but mine was in there TIGHT!

Must be tight because i was not giving it a light tap.

I asked just in case it was tapered or something and I hitting it from the wrong end or something daft.

I will just cut the sod off.
