Time for a bit of an update i guess.............
For the more observant among you, you will have noticed that reality has overtaken the restoration thread!
After my ramblings at christmas about possibly paying for some of the work to be done to speed up the restoration, i recieved lots of helpful replies.
Key amongst them was the offer from our own Anton and Derek to come and help complete the project in my own garage.
Being in the motortrade myself, i was extremely reluctant to send my car car somewhere to be done (leaving aside whether i could actually afford it) so the suggestion of doing it in my garage, at what can only be described as a very good rate, had a lot going for it.
This meant i was still in full control of what got done and how it got done. Ideal!
My biggest problem to date was knowing how stuff went back together as it had been 12 years since dissasembly. With Anton and Derek on barod, that problem evaporated instantly. My job was to buy stuff and restore stuff ready for a mass fitting session. With dates agreed for the visits, the pressure was on to be ready when they came.
With pressure of work plus trying to get the car ready for the nats, time on the internet and hence this thread virtually stopped.
But progress in the garage was good. Several long sundays later the car was almost complete.
Yes, in the end, some compromises were made, and some small details will be revisted just to bring things up to scratch, but finally it is done, even if i was still bolting stuff on on friday night! sadly during the preceeding week a couple of issues occured, the most annoying being a knock from the rear (almost certainly a defective new shock) and a diff that whines like a 50's bus. Disappointing given that i paid to have this rebuilt
As is obvious, thanks are due to Anton and Derek for their help, without which, it might have been several more years, plus of course our illustrious chairman Ivor who has helped me out no end, especially on paint related matters. Also thanks to Blue for the excellent work on the gearbox and Peter Knight for the engine rebuild. And of course Dunc for some of the obscure parts like the cover under the A/C heater box! really never thought i would get one.
Anyway, enough rambling. I did manage a few more photos along the way so here they are if anyone is still interested!
