So, how do you like the new look folks?

I've stripped off all the filler and cleaned off the surface rust with a clean & strip wheel on a drill. Took about 25 hours to do the whole car It's now coated with Gibbs lube which should hold off the rust for a while! The bumpers, all the trim and shiny bits are going back on and it's gonna stay like this for a while.
I won't have the money to get it painted for a couple of years.
I'm sick of having a half built car, I just need it back together and I need to drive the damn thing!!!

It's been 'stored' right through summer Pete and I can't describe on here how p....d off I am about that!

There is a paint I use a lot.... It is called aluminum. It comes in fine, medium and course. All it is, is aluminum particles suspended in the clear binder. It just looks like metal when painted.

Now I have seen your car naked..... I know I would paint it with the aluminum paint. That thing is georgeous!

So now I've settled on not painting the car for a while thanks to the wonders of Gibbs I obviously need another problem to occupy my time

When I took it for it's third-ever outing on Friday, the gearbox jammed in 2nd
This has happened a couple of times before so it's time to fix it properly, a full strip and rebuild will be happening. I've never had a manual box apart before so I'll be learning as I go.
On Sunday I jacked it up and got it on 4x axle stands, I had a couple of hours on it last night and dumped the oil, whipped off the exhausts, headers & prop.
There's a tiny amount of metal & brass powder in the fluid. No alarming amounts though and more importantly- no big lumps!

Gearbox is out!!

No dramas, except getting stuck under it as it separated from the motor

I totted up, it took 4 hours total.
I also listed each thing I did and what tool I did it with. Saves a helluva lot of time next time crawling out from under the car for the next size spanner

I had to pull out the dissy, disconnect the rad top hose and loosen the motorplate bolts to allow the engine and box to tip back far enough for the bellhousing to clear the bulkhead. A bit scary doing it on my own!
Cos I didn't want the trans to drop suddenly, I lay under it... This would have been fine but as it slid gently onto my chest, it got wedged and pinned me under the car
I wriggled free and dragged it out, job done!!

By the way, I can highly recommend going to your local furniture reclaimers and hunting down 1m square office carpet tiles, £2 each at mine. Makes crawling under a car almost a pleasure

Yaay! I've rediscovered the brilliant rebuild guides I read when I first started learning about 4-speeds.
Pics in the 1st one are a bit crap cos it's scanned from a book but it's dead easy to follow and is written at my level
They also do the rebuild with no expensive special tools

Is there a reason why you removed the bell housing? You could have left it on the engine and just removed the gearbox.
