From 18 November 2012 car and motorbikes made before 1960 also won’t need an MOT.

And if you import a pre 60,it doesn't need a first mot to get it on the road.

i am the first to admit to only having work done for an MOT

my advice would be,, if you do import a pre 60... get an MOT done.
my mates just inported 3 good cars from the states that were inspected by independant valuation companys in texas and st louis, 2 are fine but one that was restored in 08 has thrown up a few problems on the mot.. nothing that we cant sort but what was classed as good over there is just not up to our standards...

Very good advice too. There's going to be some real junk out there for a while,well until spotchecks on the roadside pull them in. Although no MoT,the onus is on the owner to keep the vehicle such a condition that it could pass MoT at any time.
My farmfresh running/driving truck for under £5K cost nearly another £2K to make roadworthy,even now it still needs more work like front spring bushes and screen wipers.

What cars are they Rich, got a mate here who recently brought over a 55 chevy and a 59 chevy belair, both cars needed work but were drivable.
I'm still getting the two 1950s cars mot'ed, the fact there used for weddings is reason enough

got a ticket on the 56 last week

So have I, doesn't mean I don't know what's Been brewing for the last couple years on talks to stop MOT's on the older cars or that it was implemented.

Even with amount of time I spend overseas, I still talk to mates on the phone who tell me what's happening.
