Yeah my mate has a 59 Caddy Cobra that looks exactly the same as yours , same engine too...police took him off the road for his own safety

200 mph at half throttle no probs.

Sold that for 3 grand in the end...would you take similar.

Listen I am not stupid I know this car will be hard to sell,,Most people do not get it.....More than likely be still racing it when I am 70...Shame because I have one more car in me to build,,,and my rule is one car at a time,,,, Or my wifes rule is

It will be hard for me to part it out ,,sort of got a bit to close to this car for my own good...Shame because its a great ole car ,,see how I feel as the weeks go by ,, But I will say this if it sells whoever buys it is getting a real nice race car...that needs nothing ...and some of the crap I have seen for sale that is rare...

Pete I need to build a PROPER superstock,full nhra rules...possibly spend 20 grand on an engine to go slower ????But its my calling and has to be done ... To do this right the car has to be PAINFULLY straight and stock...its not going to be cheep...Shortlist 68 AMX, 67Fastback cuda,70duster,,,,your right best part of a house just for the car

You are mad, my friend - even by my standards - given that you will use it probably twice a year and it will take you 6 years to build it, with your your "dedication"...

Can't you take up a cheaper hobby, such as sheep worrying, and hang on to the old space hopper???

Some examples :thumbright:All steel ,stock interior ,and any moter as long it was an option for that car that year,,,axle must have been an option, some ali heads are legal but valve size must be stock size,,,no holes in the bonnet

cam any grind but must be stock lift,,,stock stroke ,but you can offset grind the crank...your class is determined by power to weight ,,,ss/a ss/b etc ,,, So to sum up spend £60 k to go slower but look preeety

A car like that could be very high maintenance, stock guys will go through 20 converters to gain a tenth. Not to mention,there's no class in this country for them.
The only cars i've seen over here that fit those rules are the williams cars and the way they spend money, I reckon they've come up on the lottery.

yes but thats what pete wants to build as his swan song mine is a bentley race car with a hemi will be built heavy so lose out on et but sometimes its not all about that its a vision thing,

Well said Dunc, It oftens boils down to our vision or what we want. There will be better ways of doing things, but if it's not what we want, we ignore.

Full credit to Pete or anyone for that matter, for wanting to build, own what they want...

Absolutely right!

I've had a lot of good advice since before getting the Belve- get an A-body they're cheaper to go fast...put a big block in it, everyone's going big block...get rid of that 4-speed...etc

All good sound advice, but you gotta do what's in you. You have to scratch that itch

Pete I try not to rush anything these days,,,I have been planning this for some time <<<ask the Chandler brothers I have driven them mad over the last few years....I have learnt a lot doing the Cuda so this ,IF my car sells should be straight forward...I would like an AMX but this will be the hardest route ..No Mancinis for these babys,and the early Borg Warner gearbox,s on these were rubbish,,no rebuid kits or nice upgrades for them ...But the 4 speeds were bullet proof and lots of goodies for these boxes today ....you can convert to TF box as the 71 and later were fitted with these because of the weeker BW box...But this is meant to be very Expensive to do.. Eldebrock do NHRA legal heads for 390 and 401 moter so you are safe there ..Blocks well lets just say don,t bust it ,,,,but as you can see,, in my head its built ...The all important NHRA legal stamp on the heads.. These are exact copies of the stock head ,but they can only be purchased as blanks ,,,so your porting and choice of springs etc is down to you ,,,,stock valve size only allowed...

pete we all write the cheques some big some small and try our best to avoid if possible,
but if its a plan we move foreward,

your a12 car is a perfect candidate to take on pete crikey the option sheet perfect for gettin on it in safety,

I agree on that Duncan; I imagine that is why Chrysler instigated the A12 option in the first place.

However, it comes back to the fact that there is no class in the UK to run it in, and to that end it is a very expensive and slow RWYB Car......

I would always pick an "A" body over a Bee with the exception of the Dana.....not sure you could swing that as an option on a "stock" "A" body.

It is a shame there is no such class here.

Mind you there is Pete's "Dragstalgia" class and he has the ideal car for that.....no, wait a moment.............

Pete the dragstalgia SS class is going to be there long after I am gone ,,, how it will evolve I have no idea... But its there to stay...My legacy to UK drag racing ,,that and mahoooosive rear wheels :lol:And now that I have succumbed to the fact it has to be a dial in class,, any pre 74 yank can run, big block small block ,as long as it runs on buggy springs and has no afterburners ,just dial it in and hang on,,,you was there ,,, was that not more fun than racing vw golfs all day??
