MEET THE MMA COMMITTEE Having owned far more Mopars over the years than can be listed here, Pete has recently taken on the role of MMA Chairman and is now the new driving force behind the club.Mandie is our Membership Secretary and the club Treasurer, having worked tirelessly behind the scenes of the MMA for many years. You will often see her attending MMA events with her husband Matt.Formerly serving as the club Chairman, Matt now keeps the vehicle register. Matt and Mandie have a rare Australian Hemi Chrysler Charger and a 1973 Dodge Challenger (pictured).Derek acts as a central point of contact for public and press relations matters. With a background of many years in the American and Custom car scene, and as the organiser of the resurrected Chelsea Cruise, Derek helps the MMA get their message to the world.Simon owned a '68 Charger for 5 years, a 2006 ex Police Charger for 7 years and can now be found in the lanes of Cornwall enjoying a 2014 Challenger. People instantly recognise the Dodge Charger as an Iconic car featured in "that" chase in "Bullitt", and again driven by those good ol' boys in the "Dukes of Hazzard"; and later by Vin Diesel. People may have heard of a Plymouth "Roadrunner", or maybe a Plymouth "Barracuda" or " 'Cuda". They have certainly heard of the legendary Plymouth "Superbird" driven by Richard Petty and stylised in Disney's "Cars" movie as the "King". In the American car market the Sixties and early Seventies was a special time. Unfettered by safety and anti-pollution legislation, and with a new customer base of youngsters with money to spend, the US car manufacturers gave the public what they wanted - rakish styling and plenty of V8 power options - comfort and refinement took a back seat! Modern vehicles are smoother, quieter, more economical, better handling and sometimes faster, but anyone who has driven a proper muscle car will tell you they are so much more fun. If they don't you'd better check their pulse!Mopar is a generic term for cars made by Chrysler, that includes Dodge, De Soto, Eagle, Imperial, Jeep and Plymouth brands ... Chrysler also bought the AMC company, although they never produced any cars badged as such. The term comes from the Mopar brand name on official Chrysler spare parts - literally short for 'Motor Parts'.No other manufacturer entered into the spirit of the muscle car more than Chrysler, particularly under the Dodge and Plymouth brands.
